Olá, gostaria de saber como fazer uma consulta onde x tem que ser diferente de y

Já tentei todas as sintaxes que conheço para o sinal de diferente mas nada funcionou..

$sql = "SELECT * FROM $tabela2 ORDER BY id WHERE NOT id=1";
$sql = "SELECT * FROM $tabela2 ORDER BY id WHERE NOT id<>1";

ao invés de

Problema resolvido.. foi só colocar o ORDER BY após o WHERE
