Erro De "500 Internal Server Error"

instalei o php + apache mas quando tento acessar um arquivo na minha pasta raiz dá o seguinte erro:

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, x@x.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

Abra o arquivo error_log e veja qual erro está sendo gerado.
